Methane Emissions Technology Alliance (META)

The Methane Emissions Technology Alliance (META) is a Stanford-led, multi-institution group of researchers and practitioners in the private and public sectors focusing on sharing and discussing advances in the detection and mitigation of methane emissions from a variety of sources.

The flagship initiative of META is our biweekly online seminar series discussing the latest advances in research and practice in this field.

Since we launched early in 2020, we have had speakers from Georgia Tech, Frost Methane, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Gas Technology Institute, the National Energy Technology Laboratory, the Environmental Defense Fund, and Stanford.

Who can attend?

Anyone interested in attending these seminars is welcome to do so. We aim to bring together researchers and stakeholders from industry, government, and nonprofit organizations interested in discussing the latest developments in methane emissions technologies.

To join the list, please email Evan Sherwin at

Can I watch past talks?

Yes! You can find recordings of many past META talks on our YouTube channel.

A common thread in my research is understanding sources and sinks of greenhouse gases. For carbon dioxide, I am interested in the variability in carbon uptake by the biosphere. For methane, I focus on detection and mitigation of anthropogenic sources of emissions.
